Barrow
Barrow is a large industrial town in Cumbria. Barrow has the second largest population in Cumbria. There are five major historical places to visit in Barrow which are The Furness Abbey, Town Hall, Piel Castle, The Dock Musuem and Walney Nature Reserve.
Furness Abbey was founded almost 900 years ago and was once the largest and wealthiest monastery in north-west England. But now you can explore the impressive ruins including much of the east end and west tower of the church. Visit the ornately decorated chapter house and the cloister buildings. There is also an exhibition of stone carvings and effigies to see which is situated on the outskirts of Barrow and is one of the most popular tourist attractions.
Barrow Town Hall is the most impressive building Grade II listed building in the centre of town. Dating back to 1887. The dominating tower ensures that it stands out as one of the tallest buildings in town.
Another beautiful tourist attraction is Piel Island it is small and dominated by the castle. The views are calm and scenic. There is a ferry available to get there on. The service is laid back and friendly. There is a pub called the Ship Inn which is friendly and has its own character. In Barrow there are over 146 bars and pubs
